Autoimmune Disease is a growing concern today. Many chronic conditions fall into this category and include such things as Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and can affect every organ system and tissue in the body. There are conditions that affect the skin (psorisis, eczema, alopecia, etc), joints (Rheumatoid Arthritis), organs (Lupus), nerves (Multiple Sclerosis), eyes (Behcet’s Disease, Lupus, etc), pancreas (Autoimmune Pancreatitis), ear (Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease, Meniere’s disease, etc) and the list goes on and on.

The common theme is a tissue or organ system is under attack by the body’s immune cells which causes distruction and inflammation that can be debilitating.

Autoimmune disease often causes silent suffering because you can’t always tell from looking at a person that they have a chronic condition. Many people don’t know they have an autoimmune condition; they know they just don’t feel right, or they have a chronic problem like a skin rash or low energy or something else that isn’t outwardly recognizable.

There are multiple factors in developing an autoimmune condition: genetics, environment and toxic exposure among other possible causes. Gut permeability, or leaky gut, is what ultimately enables the body to begin attacking itself. When the tight junctions open in microscopic gaps, undigested bits of food, toxins and other elements can cross over into the blood stream which then increases the responsiveness of the immune system. This hypersensitivity can result in the immune system beginning to mistake self for the bad guy. That’s where genetics come in. Some people develop autoimmunity, others do not.

Some things can be done to help a person recover from autoimmunity. Though a cure is not a reality, many people have been able to put their condition(s) into remission. It takes focus, determination and a plan. The following steps will be used in order to begin the healing process.

·        A thorough health history will be completed to determine the possible cause.

·        Testing will be ordered to investigate the driving factors of the condition(s).

·        A supportive, healing nutrition plan will be developed to promote healing while reducing stress.

·        A detailed protocol will be developed based on the testing results.

·        On-going guidance will be offered to support the healing process.

You aren’t alone in your healing journey. Many people have autoimmune conditions today. Only you have the power and ability to take control of your health and allow your body to heal.
